The Landhotel-Gut Puttererseehof is only a 5-minute walk from Lake Putter and the Gulling River, making it perfect for an unforgettable fishing vacation. What are your fishing guests’ favorite spots?
Alexander Dornbusch: “The favorite place of our fishing guests is definitely the Putterersee at sunrise, already from 5 or 6 o’clock in the morning. The fisherman can enjoy the sunrise here with the boat on the lake and in the summer it is also still very quiet and particularly idyllic at this time, because at a later time the bathers come to the Putterersee.”
When is the best time (time of day/season) to fish for certain species of fish where you live?
Alexander: “The morning, evening and night are perfect for fishing at Lake Putter. In the quieter months such as e.g. but in May and September, midday is also a good time. And sometimes we have the best catches even in the most beautiful bathing weather and when there are many people at the lake, which is really surprising. Generally, however, May and September are the best months for fishing at Putterersee because the swimming is not yet so busy.
Pike, carp and tench are primarily found in Lake Putterer, and walleye at night.”
Family Fishing Vacation/Child Fishing Theme: How to make a family fishing vacation successful? And what do you have to consider regarding “fishing for children” and what services/courses do you offer in this regard?
Alexander: “Family vacation is a very big topic for us in the summer months, we offer daily child and family care between Monday and Friday. On Mondays, for example, the guests get to know the farm and the other families, on Tuesday it goes with the tractor to the alpine pasture and on Wednesday is lake or fishing day. There, together with the fish warden, children’s fishing is offered. Along the jetty, mostly smaller fish are caught such as rudd and redfish, but there have also been larger catches. The children’s fishing is very well accepted by the children, the joy is very great and the children or the whole family have a lot of fun. Children as young as 4 years old can participate in children’s fishing.”
With you, fishing enthusiasts can also pursue their hobby in winter, because the Landhotel-Gut Puttererseehof is one of the few ice fishing providers in Austria. What special winter offer can fishing guests look forward to with you? Is the offer gladly and much taken up?
Alexander: “During ice fishing, fishermen usually sit together at the fishing holes on the frozen lake from Friday to Sunday, share special fishing experiences and warm themselves with hot mulled wine. Since ice fishing depends on the temperature, we usually refrain from a fixed date, but we always have guests who are interested in it and who also like to come spontaneously for ice fishing.
If people are interested, they can contact us and we’ll take down their name and phone number and get back to them as soon as Lake Putterer is frozen over and we offer the ice fishing weekend again.”
Has there been a particularly funny or unique fishing vacation story in recent years that you’d like to share?
Alexander: “In any case, the following story was unique: we once had a Swiss guest who caught a particularly large catfish with a size of 1, 70m, which was one of our largest catches at the time. The guest really wanted to show the catfish to the other fishermen and colleagues the next day and put the fish in the kiddie pool overnight. Unfortunately, the wooden barrier, which protrudes about half a meter out of the water, was no obstacle for the big fish, so it jumped over it overnight. The next day, the fisherman’s joy was then not so great, because there was no more fish for him to show off.”
Who in the family is the most passionate fisherman?
Alexander: “My brother Philipp is a passionate fisherman and always likes to go fishing at Lake Putter himself.”
Who came up with the idea of offering the fishing water to vacation guests?
Alexander: “My parents already had this idea many years ago and the membership in ABENTEUER FISCHWASSER developed from that.”
The Puttererseehof is not only perfect for fishing, but also an ideal starting point for numerous outdoor activities. What are some of the highlights away from fishing?
Alexander: “The absolute highlight with us remains the Putterersee as a bathing lake, as a place to relax and as an activity place for the whole family. We are also in a strong tourist region, so there are many leisure activities in the area such as hiking routes, climbing parks, gondola lifts, themed hiking trails, and much more. It is guaranteed that everyone will find something fun to do here and have an unforgettable vacation.”
Is there anything that makes your operation particularly unique?
Alexander: “I would say our hospitality or the individual adaptation of our offers and packages to the guest makes our business very special. We respond very individually to the wishes of our guests and especially because we are a family business, we can care for our guests much more individually and take more time. We also have some special offers for fishermen, like ice fishing. In addition, we offer exclusively for our house guests the possibility of night fishing, where it sometimes even happens that a fisherman has the whole lake to himself at night.”
